Daily Devotional – 10/19/15 “What are your intentions?”

Are you tired of playing yet? With your spirituality, I mean. Aren’t you tired of playing with the Holy Spirit that is imbedded in your spirit? Aren’t you tired of going to church playing with this thang? You do know at some point, the playing will have to cease whether it be my choice or force. Yea, there are only so many times you’ll be allowed to act like you’re shouting before the Holy Spirit intervenes and it’ll blow your entire mind. Think about it for a few seconds. When you don’t give your all to something, how does it turn out? If someone challenged you to a game and you go in without the intentions of winning, you might lose. Then you’d probably say, ok let me get serious about this. And when you get serious, you have a better chance of getting better results. Well, when you stop playing with this thing called spirituality, you’ll have a greater chance of getting greater results. What are your spiritual intentions, Saint of God?

When you go to worship with the intentions to worship, you get worship. However, if you step into God’s house simply because it looks like the right thing to do, you’ll leave saying, “Pastor didn’t preach worth nothing.” When the truth of the matter is, your intentions weren’t worth nothing. This is why you have to grow up and stop playing. This is why you have to get to a point in your life when you get out of the playtime mentality, the “I have time” thinking and the “God knows my heart” mess! At some point, you’ve got to get out of your childish thinking about your spirituality and grow up. There’s work to do, kingdom work and it takes a mature mind to deal with what comes along with it. There are souls to save and having an immature mind can’t do it. This is why Hebrews 6:1-3 says, “So let us stop going over the basic teachings about Christ again and again. Let us go on instead and become mature in our understanding. Surely we don’t need to start again with the fundamental importance of repenting from evil deeds and placing our faith in God. You don’t need further instruction about baptisms, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead and eternal judgment. And so, God willing, we will move forward to further understanding.” It’s time we move into a new realm of teaching and preaching because the enemy has moved to a new realm of destroying God’s people. It’s time we grow up spiritually in order to get what we need in the spirit! What are you intentions on this journey?

Daily Devotional – 10/16/15 “Who are you proving it too?”

Why do we spend the majority of our time trying to please folk and then give God the sloppy parts that’s left? I mean, some of us (I’m using us because this thang is about everybody) get up every day to post pictures of our relationship because we want to prove to social media it’s as good as you say it is. Yet, we aren’t trying to make it so and prove to God that it is. We are so worried with how folk will see us on the outside that we forget about the fact that God is looking on the inside. We take more time arguing with folk about our spirituality yet we don’t spend any time with God accepting His anointing. Yea, we post spiritual messages but how’s your life outside of social media? Does it match? We upload picture after picture of a smiling face but at home we’re drinking tears for water. Who are you trying to prove it too that you’re happy? Maybe if we spent more time trying to be happy, we wouldn’t have to put on a show for the world because then we’d actually be happy.

I’m only asking the question … who are you trying to prove it too? You do know that folk will talk about you no matter what you do, right? Then why are you concerned about them when you need to be concerned with God, who you barely speak too. Baby, you’ll never do it right for everybody because somebody in the group will find something wrong with you, your appearance, your relationship, what you say, the job you have, the car or house you stay in or what you did yesterday. Some of the folks you’re friends with on social media don’t like you anyway, they are simply waiting for something drastic to happen in your life so they can run and tell. Why are you trying to entertain them? You won’t talk about God out of fear of what folk might say. You won’t come to bible study because you don’t want folk to know you ready/study God’s word. You don’t go to Sunday school because then folk may ask who you’re changing for. You barely go to worship because then folk might call you holy. Well, I suggest you stop worrying about “them” because they can’t put you in Heaven or hell. Stop trying to please folk, you can’t! Ask yourself this question, “Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ. (Galatians 1:10)”

Ray comes running in, “Any news yet.”

“No.” I say wiping the tears that wouldn’t stop. “Just when it seems like things are getting better.”

“He will pull through this boo, you’ve got to believe that.”

“I’m trying but–”

“Nothing.”

“What?”

“I just don’t want him to pull through if he has to live his life as a vegetable being dependent on someone to take care of him the rest of his life. Am I wrong for saying that?”

“No that sounds just like you; caring for nobody but your damn self.” Jyema says walking in.

“Bitch, unless you want to be lying in room 12 down the hall; I suggest you walk your ass right back out this room.” Ray says getting up.

“Who are you, her next one?” She asks looking me up and down.

“No, hoe; I’m the only one. Now, get the fuck out!”

Laughing, she says, “I’ll see you again Cam.”

“Not unless I see you first.” I yell after her.

“The nerve of that boot mouth bitch,” Ray says now pacing. “She has the audacity to show up here, now of all days. I should chase the hoe down and put my foot in her ass. What did you ever see in her anyway?”

“Calm down Raylin.” I’ll let the police deal with her. I don’t have time to deal with her.”

“You might not have the time but I surely do and if she shows up here again, I’ll show her!”

Daily Devotional – 10/15/15 “Are you being used?”

God is trying to use you, when will you allow Him too? You keep making excuses but why won’t you get excited instead? You keep coming up with reasons why not but why not see the real reasons why? Why are you second guessing the gift, purpose, passion, destiny, calling or assignment that God has placed in you? You don’t need folk to validate it, stop asking them. Stop hiding behind the gimmicks of glorifying man and get to know the glory of the only man who can save you. Do you know that God loves you? Do you know that He will set you free? Do you know that He will allow you to cry and then wipe your tears? Do you know that He will calm your fears? Baby, it isn’t about the theatrics that are displayed in our common day pulpits but it’s about the teaching that God is who He say He is and He’ll do it for you (it is whatever you need it to be), if you seek Him.

We, as Saints of God, get caught up in the pastor but not the purpose. We, as Saints of God, are so hung up on how well they can whoop and holler but are they wise and holy? We are so stuck on the number of members joining church but how many of those members are joyful about Christ? Yea, I see you shouting but is there any sustenance in it? What do I mean? Are you only shouting because the music sounds good or are you shouting because there’s been some fuel (the Word of God) added to the fire that’s already burning in your spirit? Are you praising God because He’s worthy or is it because you want to prove something to the worldly folk? Are you serving God because for show or because He saved you? Do you go to worship to actually worship or it is because that’s all you know? When will you get from behind religion and get behind God? It’s not about denominations, what church you attend, who has more members, how well your pastor can dress, who pays the most tithes or who serves on what committee because God says it is our duty to, “Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone Mark 16:15).” Are you being used, the right way?

Daily Devotional – 10/14/15 “You have to withstand!”

It’s Wednesday and somebody is weeping over worries, wandering in the wilderness of wrong, still acting wounded even though you’ve been made whole or wrestling with whether you should just withdraw from the war. Well baby, don’t wave your white flag in surrender just yet unless you’re surrendering to God. Yea, I know it looks like giving up is an option but check again and you’ll see that it’s been whited out. Where did you get the memo that said this thang called life would be easy? Where did you see the notification that all your days would be good? Did I take the wrong turn and miss the street with no bumps? I mean, if Jesus had to endure some hell to make it to Heaven, why can’t you?

Yes, I get it! I’m just somebody sitting at a keyboard telling you to stay strong and I don’t even know your predicament. Yea, I got it! I’m just on the outside, how can I possibly know what it feels like to be in your shoes? Well beloved; I don’t know what you’re dealing with, what or who has you crying, why you have some much anger in your heart, why your spirit is tainted and you’re not producing fruit, why you have to live paycheck to paycheck, why you have to go through that sickness or disease, why you have to be without, why you can’t get the job you’ve applied and qualified for … But I know what it’s like to be turned down, to have doors slammed in your face, to be hungry with no money, to have a negative checking account days after payday, more bills than money and a calling to backslide but you have to know and then believe that it won’t last! You have to wake up every day and then lie down every night with a warrior mentality, ready to fight in the spirit. You have to get up every day and lie down every night with faith that what you ask will be done. I don’t know why you have to cry sometimes but as the song says, there’s going to be a perfect day when trouble will get out of your way … you just have to make it there to see it!
