Keep Climbing, Keep Writing!

I haven’t blogged in a while but I thought I’d share the post I did today on my devotional blog. Now, I don’t normally do this but I just feel like someone needs a little encouragement today. Yea, it maybe for you who thinks your writing isn’t going anywhere or for you who thinks you’re at a deadend. My words for you today … KEEP CLIMBING. Yes, it gets hard for a writer whether you are published or self published but keep climbing and keep writing. Your breakthrough is coming but you have to believe in yourself first before anyone else will.

Daily Devotional – 7/15/14 “Keep climbing!”

Have you ever paid attention to a squirrel? The way they move from tree branch to tree branch or the way they handle their surroundings? Think about it. Every time I see a squirrel they seem to only be focused on getting what they need down below and getting to the nearest tree. See, if they make it to the tree, nine times out of ten, they make it out of harm’s way. Is that interesting to anyone other than me? I wrote a devotional once titled “We need a squirrel like mentality,” and although it was wrote over a year ago, it still holds true today. See, when a squirrel is on a mission, it doesn’t allow the rain on the branches to stop him because it’s goal is to get to the highest branch away from any pending danger that maybe below. So, maybe it would be feasible for us, as Saints, to get a squirrel like mentality because it should give us the tenacity to be able to reach any goal and finish any mission we set out on. Yea, see, it shouldn’t matter about the rain that’s falling in your life, keep climbing. It shouldn’t even matter about those who are standing around the bottom of the tree trying to talk you out of reaching the next branch (that’s the next level in your life) because you should keep climbing. Yea, folk will try to throw stuff at you to knock you down but keep climbing. You may be waiting on test results from the doctor who said it didn’t look good but you’re not dead yet so keep climbing. You may have gotten laid off from your job but you’re not disabled so keep climbing.

Baby, if you keep climbing you’ll soon be out of reach of those naysayers who said you wouldn’t dare make it. If you keep climbing you’ll soon make it to the place man said you had no business reaching. If you keep climbing you’ll soon make it to the table some said you’d never sit at. Baby, if you just keep climbing you’ll soon reach the door that man couldn’t open for you. And don’t you know that when you climb with God as the lead and faith in your heart, no man can knock you down? Yea, you may get a few nicks and bumps from the knots (fake friends, enemies and obstacles) on the branches but don’t let it stop you because my bible tells me in Deuteronomy 28:13, “If you listen to these commands of the LORD your God that I am giving you today, and if you carefully obey them, the LORD will make you the head and not the tail, and you will always be on top and never at the bottom.” And you have what it takes to climb if you let go of fear. Stop trying to see how high it is, just climb. Stop looking to see if someone is beating you, just climb. You don’t have to be in a hurry because it’s all in God’s time anyway so move when He says move. Climb with the faith that you’ve already made it and you will. Oh but let me add this … The only time you look down on those below you is to help them up. Don’t ever get to your treetop and get too mighty because although man can’t knock you down, God can!

A Repost from my devotional blog! “Good Ole Faith!”

I had a topic in mind to write about this morning but God had other plans. Yea, I know I’ve written a lot of devotionals on faith but somebody is having a hard time this morning dealing with something. Maybe you’re trying to decide whether or not you should go for that job, try that new medicine or procedure, start a new business, write that book or even about that relationship but whatever it is, try it. Will you fail? Maybe you will and maybe you won’t. Will it be what you thought it would be? Maybe yes or maybe no. Will it be hard? Definitely. However, how will you know if you don’t try? And why should you try? Well because Hebrews 11:1 defines faith as “the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see.”

Let me share this once again for those of you whose thoughts are still wavering over this faith thing. I didn’t set out to start a devotional blog yet it was already destined, meant and ordained for me so instead of continually running from being chosen by God, I took the step. Now, I didn’t just take any step but I took the step of faith and if you wondering why refer back to the definition of faith. Baby, it’s isn’t easy writing a devotional blog because although these are my thoughts, they have to be grounded in God’s word and in order for my words to be grounded, I have to be and because I am, the enemy sometime attacks me harder. Oh, but get this … My foundation of faith is solid so although I may sway, sometimes, from the blows I don’t shift. Although I may stumble, my faith doesn’t spill. Although the punches may sometimes hurt, they don’t hinder me. Yes, sometimes they even cause tears but they’re temporary. Did I ever think I’d have people who are encouraged by me, no but God did and sometimes when I have a momentary lapse, He sends someone to remind me? This time it came by way of an email from this young man. (Subject of the email was Love your blog). So, I open the email and I begin to read and my spirit began to be filled and so did my eyes with tears because here I am, me a simple nobody by folk’s standard yet a chosen somebody by God who inspires someone I don’t even know. (God amazes me!) I won’t make this long, however, he works for a company called Good Work(s) and they make inspirational bracelets and he wanted to share some with me so that I can share them with you as a way to show appreciation and admiration for what I do (I’m speechless). Well, I received the package on last night and when I tell you they are absolutely gorgeous, it doesn’t even do them justice. These bracelets are amazing. I’ll add a few pictures for you to see them but please go to their website

And see for yourself. And get this … Use the code FAITH for a 30% discount. (WOW! I didn’t even remember this was the code until I went back to my email just now.)
