Daily Devotional – 4/7/16 “It’s not about you!”

I’ve told you before, you can’t measure how anointed you are by the actions of others. Don’t you understand that your anointing isn’t even based on you? Your anointing is appointed by God and you ought to be thankful it’s not based on your service because then most of us wouldn’t amount to anything. This is why you have to stop worrying about who’s supporting you and who’s not. Baby, you’ll quickly find that even those you thought were cheering for you aren’t. There are folks who walk among you, who are part of your squad that’s waiting on you to fail. There are folks related by blood that won’t support anything you do. Some of the folks, who are smiling in your face, speak negatively about you as soon as you leave. Don’t worry too much about it or them. Why? Because you don’t owe them a thing but to love them (and you can do that from a distance)! Stop demonstrating your destiny, they don’t deserve it. Quit trying to prove to them your purpose when they only participate in it when it pleases them.

Beloved, you’ve been waiting on an invitation to preach in somebody’s pulpit you thought liked you and it still hasn’t come. You’re still trying to get folks to believe in your gift. You’re still trying to get folks to support you and they won’t even if it’s free. Don’t worry about them. God will lift you up in the midst of folk who are calling you nothing. God will place your name in places you’ve never been. God will open doors folk will say you don’t deserve to walk through. Why does He do this? Well, it’s because it’s not about you. When you get out of your flesh and humble yourself, God will do the rest. When you get out of your feelings, God will allow you to flourish. When you start to realize that your anointing, gifts, purpose and your destiny isn’t based on you but based on whose you are; God will do the rest. Yes, I understand … you think you should have progressed by now, you think you should be farther along than you are and you think more folk should know your name but all of these things come from trying to please people. When you stop worrying about folk and start working through your faith, you’ll see the difference.

“He saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit. He generously poured out the Spirit upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior.” Titus 3:5-6

Daily Devotional – 4/5/16 “Working for God!”

When you don’t perform on your job, there’s a possibility you might get fired. When you don’t perform in school, there’s a chance you may fail that grade. When you don’t follow the advice of the doctors, you might not heal properly. All of these things make you work harder, I would guess, so that none of these things happen. But I wonder, why don’t we work as hard for God? I know, I know; God doesn’t fire us when our performance lacks but He should. God doesn’t take away our blessings when we fail to do His will but He could. Baby, if our blessing was indicative of our work some of us would be tore up, raggedy and not fitting to look at. But aren’t you glad God doesn’t do us like man? I mean, He still shows up when we call even though we didn’t answer when He called. God still keeps His promises to us although we break the ones to Him daily. God still forgives us and we’ve yet to forgive others. God still shows out on our behalf and all we do is show out for folk. We don’t give; humph, we barely give folks the chance to ask. We don’t love because if the truth shall be told, someone of us hardly like folk. We don’t go and we definitely don’t sow into others. And helping and praying; what’s that?

Why don’t we work as hard for God as we do our jobs? Why don’t we give God the same effort we give worldly stuff? Why is it so easy to sleep in on Sunday but not Saturday? Why is it hard to pay tithes but easy to pay for the things that tempt our spirit? Why is it so easy to pray to God when we’re in trouble but hard to praise when we’re not? Where is our service? Yes, I know you have the line memorized, “When praises go up blessings come down,” but I searched and I didn’t find this in the bible. However, I did see that this is based on Psalm 67:5-6 that says, “Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee. Then shall the earth yield her increase; and God, even our own God, shall bless us.” This leads me to believe that if we say thank you (praise) to God, He’ll ensure the earth is fruitful (blessing) unto His people. However, I did find how we get our blessings … Luke 6:38, “Give and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full–pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.” Simply saying, give and it shall be given back to you and what you put out, you’ll get back in return. This also includes your work for God. For if we work hard for Him, He’ll make a return on our investment by working hard for us!

Daily Devotional – 4/4/16 “When will you let go?”

Yesterday, I preached from the subject of “What is your yoke,” and it just so happened that on this day three years ago, the devotional written was about letting stuff go. There’s no coincidence in this. It simply means someone reading this has been waiting on confirmation on whether or not to let something or someone go. Well … Please understand, I don’t know who you are or what your dilemma is but you already had your answer before you even came across this devotional. So my question to you is this, “What are you waiting on?” You’re still yoking yourself to that church when God told you to move months ago. You’re still holding on to that relationship when you’ve have ample opportunities to get out. You’re still in that same job when you’ve had plenty of doors opened for you. Beloved, you can’t be elevated if you’re still standing on the outside of the elevator. Oh, you may have gotten in but it means nothing if you’ve yet to push the button to go up. You’ve got to get over the fear that has you settling in your place of complacency. You’ve got to let go of those burdens that have belittled your thoughts of ever doing better. You’ve got to step out of the place where you’ve gotten comfortable in order to step into your calling.

Please understand this, when I mention calling; it doesn’t necessarily mean to preach because God has called all of us to do something. The only thing keeping you out of yours is fear. That’s why you’ve wrapped the cord of contentment around your wrist and stayed where you are for so long. This is why you keep closing the prison cell on your passion/purpose instead of walking out into it. This is why you’ve stayed in the pit of pain instead of realizing you’ve been healed a long time ago. This is why you keep calling yourself by your past mistakes because fear has made you think you can’t do any better but you can. This is like an alcoholic who goes to AA. They get up and say, “Hi, my name is Pete and I’m an alcoholic,” but if you’re in AA this means you’ve given up alcohol so why isn’t Pete calling himself a recovering alcoholic or saying I used to be an alcoholic? The same question can be asked of you. Why are you still referring to yourself as an addict, as an abuse victim and etc.? Someone who has been cured of cancer doesn’t introduce themselves by their cancer but they say I am a cancer survivor. You’ve got to release the yoke that you’ve strapped to your shoulders. Aren’t you tired of carrying it? God has plans for your life but they are only put into play when you step in the game. When will you let go?

Isaiah 43:18-19 “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.”

Daily Devotional – 3/31/16 “What are you hungry for?”

Have you ever eaten only to not be full afterwards? Ever been thirsty and nothing you drink satisfies it? Have you ever gotten to a point in your spiritual life that you thirst after something but can’t seem to find what it is? Well, beloved; I simply stopped by to tell you that you may be seeking the wrong thing to satisfy your taste. You’re seeking the bad boy when you know good and well he doesn’t satisfy your thirst. Why do you think none of those relationships have worked out? You’re hungry for a wife but you keep going back to the exes of your past when you ought to know, if they couldn’t satisfy you then, they won’t now. You’re hungry for that promotion but throwing someone else under the bus won’t get it for you. You’re thirsty for a financial blessing but let’s be honest, can you really handle it right now? You’re struggling spiritually, I mean not going to church struggling and it could be because you’re running from what God has called you to do all due to you thirsting after something else. Don’t you know by now that as long as you keep drinking and eating from the wrong cups and plates, you’ll never get full?

The bible says in Matthew 5:6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” What do I mean? Well, righteousness is defined as the quality of being morally right or justifiable. In other words, blessed are those who hunger and thirst to do right, for they will be filled. So let me ask you … Is what you’re doing right? Are your activities acceptable? Or are you morals motivated by mess and your actions by anger? Are you hungry to do what is right or simply eating a quick meal of wrong? Are you thirsty enough to go the distance to drink that which is good or will you take the short trip and dip into what soothes you for the moment? I’m simply asking the questions. You can’t expect to get full off God’s goodness if you keep eating from the enemy’s table, can you? You have to change your eating and drinking habits. That’s if you seek to be filled. Don’t believe me? How do you lose weight? By eating what’s good for you. How can you help your skin remain healthy looking? By drinking water instead of sodas. How can you get right spiritually? By eating the nourishment of God’s word. It’s all up to you. You have to make the choice of what you put in your body; physically and spiritually. It’s your choice. But know this…The bible says in Proverbs 21:21 “He who pursues righteousness and love finds life, prosperity and honor.” You get what you seek!
