Daily Devotional – 7/15/16 “What’s in a name?”

I’ve never been one to refer to myself as a bad B****, I’ve never seen the need for it. My momma gave me a name that fits me as well as the nickname my grandma gave me; so I’m good. I don’t need you giving me or calling me anything else. The only other person who changed my name was God and His name change came with promotion. This is why you can’t refer to me as a B**** or anything else other than my name. See, I would go so far as to say that those who refer to themselves as such obviously don’t understand what it means. By definition, it’s a female dog, wolf, fox or otter. However, it also means a difficult or unpleasant situation or thing, a complaint and it’s used to express displeasure. So, in other words when you refer to yourself, when your dude call you this or your so-called friends reference you as that; they are ultimately saying you aren’t really a bad b**** but you’re in actuality a difficult or unpleasant thing. This is why you have to be careful of the name you give yourself and the name you allow yourself to be called. There used to be a time when names meant something. A father would give his son his first and last name to carry on the legacy. Mothers would name daughters a name befitting to them. But now, we’ve gotten so wrapped up in fancy spelling, 22 syllables with 32 letters that we no longer consider the meaning of anything anymore.

In the bible, names meant something.

Abram meaning exalted father was changed to Abraham meaning father of a multitude because it came with promotion.

Jacob meaning holding of the heel (he was born holding his twin’s brother heel) was changed to Israel meaning having power with God. – It came with the anointing.

Simon means God has heard was changed to Peter meaning rock. Yet, Jesus sometimes referred to him by his old name of Peter to remind him of where he came from.

In the story of Joseph (whose name means may Jehovah add increase) was put in the pit by his brother Reuben but it was his brother Judah who pulled him out. Here’s where names matter. Reuben’s name means misery and Judah’s name means praise. So in other words, it was misery (Rueben) who put Joseph in the pit but it was praise (Judah) who pulled him out!

Names have meanings!

This is why you have to be careful what name you go by, what names you allow yourself to be called and especially what you answer too. For the bible says in Proverbs 22:1, “A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold.”

PS – I will be in revival starting Sunday. Please see the flyer for more details. If you in Memphis, Mississippi or the surrounding areas, I’d love to see you. If not, send your prayers.

Daily Devotional – 7/14/16 “Please stop!”

It’s time out for games, period! We, who said out of our own mouths that we believe in God and want to serve Him, regardless of age, need to understand that the games need to stop! I don’t know if you realize this or not but we are living in hellish times. And if you call yourself a Saint of God and you’re still playing games; it might be hard for God to recognize you as one of His own. So, today is the day that it needs to stop. This means, if you only go to church to give the pastor and members hell; please stop. If you proclaim to be a messenger of God yet you stay in more mess than an unbeliever, please stop! If you know good and well that your heart is dirty, stop putting your filthy hands on folk talking about healing or your unclean mouth talking about prophesying. If you know that your home is in disarray, how in the Heaven can you honestly handle God’s house? If you are lying and sinning thinking you can continually get away with it by showing up at altar call on Sunday, please stop. Beloved, we need some folk who can help ye one another. There needs to be some folk who can hold up the pastor’s arms when he or she gets tired. There ought to be some Saints, somewhere, lying on their face praying for God to have mercy on this land. There should be some folk who are willing to petition the throne of grace on behalf of their sister or brother when they can’t.

There needs to be more folk praying than there are of enemies preying. There must be more Saints snatching others out of the pit inside of pushing them down. There has to be more folk helping than there are of those hurting. There has to be! This is why the games have to stop. Stop going to church choking out the glory of God that’s there with your gossip. Stop showing up at the church meeting just to start some mess because that’s what your momma nem used to do. Stop sending text messages with foolishness, posting and sharing more foolishness because it needs to stop. You can keep on hating folk, if you want, but I don’t have time to keep playing. God has need of us and if we keep thinking we have all the time in the world to get it right, you are sadly mistaken. Everyday there is someone dying by the hand of violence. Everyday a parent has to bury their child because cancer was more aggressive. Everyday a mother has to kiss a son goodbye because he was at the wrong place at the wrong time. Everyday a daughter is committing suicide because she can’t handle the pressure of living. Everyday a sister is fighting a demon she can’t let go of. Everyday a brother is fighting in his home and in the streets. It’s has to stop y’all. The games and the playing, it has to stop! Please stop! We need more of God’s grace, not your worldly games.

Keep it real

Daily Devotional – 7/13/16 “Questions you need to answer!”

If I were to ask you who you are, could you tell me right off the top of your head? If I were to ask you whose you are, would you stutter at the answer? I’m only asking because you HAVE to know who you are before you can get anybody else to believe in you. If I ask your name and you have to think about it, I’ll think you’re lying. This is the same way when it comes to ministry and even worldly work. Chile, lookahere … It doesn’t matter if your gift hasn’t paid off, act like it has. It doesn’t matter if folk don’t know your name, make them memorize it by the time you leave their presence. Beloved, you should always walk into a room with all the confidence in the world (even with your knees shaking from nervousness) because you must have belief in yourself before you get anyone else to buy what you’re selling or believe what you’re telling. Let me tell you, each time I get up to minister, to speak, teach or even sell books; I am a nervous wreck however I believe in what God has instilled in me so I act like I got it all together when most times I don’t. But this is where the Holy Spirit intercedes for me. This is why it doesn’t matter that I’ve yet to stand in many of places to proclaim God’s name, I act like I have because it’s coming. It doesn’t matter to me that I’ve yet to reach the New York Times Best Sellers list, I act like I have because I know it’s coming.

See, what I’m doing is simply preparing me for the bigger that’s to come. What this is, is me working to get everything together while I’m at this level so I’ll be prepared for the elevation. And you have to start believing it for yourself too. Claim what you want and work like you’ve already got it. Pray about what you want and then praise like it’s already yours. Baby, I thank God in advance, daily, for the many places my feet will hit (even before I get there). I’m thanking God, right now, for the new house He’s about to put in our name and it’s not even built yet. Why? Well because I know whose I am and I expect God to do it for me. So let me ask you these questions again. Do you know who you are? Do you know whose you are? Do you believe in yourself? Beloved, you can’t trust in what you think but you’ve got to trust in the God you know. You can’t put your faith in man but put your trust in THE Man who’s able to do above anything you could ever dream of. The bible says in Proverbs 28:26, “Those who trust their own insight are foolish, but anyone who walks in wisdom is safe.” Believe it and it shall be but if you trust it by faith, it’s already done. Who are you? Whose are you? What are you selling? What are you telling? If you can’t answer these questions, go back into the workshop and work on it because these are things you HAVE to know.

Questions

Step out on faith and stay there!

Step out on faith and trust God to do it. Never, in all of my life, would I have thought I would be a preacher, teacher, speaker nor author. Yet, God has afforded me the opportunity to do ALL these things and more. It’s not because of me but it’s because I have the grace and anointing of Him within me.

I simply stopped by today to encourage someone who is feeling like giving up on being an author. Your time hasn’t come yet, you don’t have as many followers as everybody else, you can’t understand how they can sell books and you can’t or why their books can rank high on book selling sites and yours can’t but beloved; it’s not for you to figure out.

Your time is coming, you just have to trust God. Continue using your gift and trust God to do it for you. Your time is coming!

Step out on faith and stay there!

— Be blessed and keep writing!
