Daily Devotional – 8/26/19 “Recovery then restoration!”

Stop praying for a Job type restoration, if you aren’t willing to go through a Job type test. See, we want the restoration but to get to restoration, there has to be something that happened prior to that caused either damage or brokenness. That’s where we fail. We can’t pray for restoration, unless there’s something damaged and/or broken. In my latest book, When the Vows Break 3 (shameless plug), I wrote on recovery and restoration. First, you have to know there’s a difference in the two because many times we tend to want to skip the recovery part. However, recovery is the action or process of regaining possession or control of something stolen or lost. Whereas restoration is the action of returning something to a former owner, place, or condition. Let’s say you own a building and the building catches fire or there’s been some damage done to it. After the fire, the building is in the hands of the fire department and until you regain possession of it, you can’t restore it. Well, the only way God can effectively restore us, we’ve got to be in God’s possession. We do that through recovery.

Let’s face it, we sometimes walk away from God. That’s because we face stuff that seems like punishment or we have abandonment issues. With abandonment issues, even physical, they play into our spiritual. You can be honest because when God doesn’t answer, when we think He should, we feel abandoned and we turn away from Him. We’ll stop going to church, stop praying, stop tithing and fasting etc. That’s okay, God doesn’t leave us, even when we leave Him. However, for God to perform restoration, we have to be in His possession. Job, he went through unimaginable loss, after which God restored everything he lost. Yet, before he got to restoration, he had to recover.

Job’s recovery was a process and it hurt. He had to go through detox (he had to lose some stuff), anger (he cursed the day he was born), crying out to God, pleading with God, arguing with God, the why me (Job asked why aren’t the wicked punished), understanding, recalling former things, being challenged by God and then apologizing to God. Once we make it here, God isn’t done because then, He’ll require something of us. For Job, he had to pray for his friends. Afterwards, though, Bible says in Job 42:10, “When Job prayed for his friends, the Lord restored his fortunes. In fact, the Lord gave him twice as much as before!” Yes, we can get to restoration but there’s a process and a cost. And if you want to know if the process is worth it … it absolutely is.

The Bible says in 1 Peter 4:12-13, “Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy.” But how can you hold on when it seems everything is fighting against, what you’re praying for?

These six friends have endured a lot and it doesn’t seem like an end is in sight. With more storms and broken hearts, more shattered trust and crushed promises; some are on the verge of giving it all up.

Keep Waiting

I’m sharing this on both blogs today because I need to encourage somebody, to keep waiting. When I got ready to re-release #ASecretWorthKeeping, I was hesitant. For one, it has six characters and two, I was changing the book from it’s original form. Y’all … the response to #WhentheVowsBreak has surpassed my wildest imagination. I wish I could tell you there was a magic formula (there isn’t). I wish I could tell you there was a specific ad or promo that did it (I can’t). I wish I could tell you the right keywords (I can’t).

What I can tell you is this … God is amazing. He’s allowed me to be supported by people, in states and countries; I’ve never met yet you purchase every book. God allows me to use Him (He’s okay with it) on the pages of books, to get people to see and feel Him. #byanymeansnecessary

Y’all, writing is part of my purpose. This is why I don’t bash those who don’t support, they will one day. I’ve stopped complaining and started praying more. And, here’s the hardest part, I’ve started waiting, patiently. Waiting on what God has for me, in every area of my life.

For somebody who is looking at the seeds you’ve sown and they haven’t bloomed yet, keep waiting. For somebody who is looking at their business and it hasn’t sprouted yet, keep waiting. For somebody who is thinking about throwing in the towel, keep waiting. For somebody who has been waiting, this may hurt to hear but you’ve got to keep waiting YOUR TURN. It’s like when you’re sitting in the DMV and you’re looking at that ticket in your hand that says A12 and they’re just on A68 (which means they have to go all the way through to 99 just to start over and get to you) but eventually, your number will be called. WHEN IT’S YOUR TIME.

Trust God’s process, even when you don’t understand. If what you’re doing, is part of your purpose, there will be moments of hurt, pain, lack and everything else you can think of. However, if you wait, working while you wait, trust while you wait, prepare while you wait, faith it while you wait and believe while you wait; it’ll pay off.

Dear God,
Forgive me for being impatient with my purpose. Forgive me for rushing your process. From this moment, I’m going to wait in and on you, while you renew my strength. And while I’m waiting, I’ll thank you, in advance, for what you’re going to do. Amen.

“But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” — Isaiah 40:31

Daily Devotional – 8/12/19 “Open your mouth, mane!”

There may come a time when the thing God gave you instruction to do, doesn’t produce like it should. There may come a time when the place He sent you, looks deserted, dry and desolate. There may come a time, when the assignment feels more like punishment instead of purpose. A time, when you keep looking at yourself, trying to figure out, exactly what God is doing. Here’s what I’m learning, as I journey this thang called purpose. God gives us power to restore life to the dry bones. When Ezekiel was in the valley of dry bones, God asked him, in Ezekiel 37:3, “Son of man, can these bones live?” To which Ezekiel replied, “O Lord GOD, You know.” He was placing the matter back into God’s hands but then God tells Ezekiel, “Prophesy to these bones and say to them, ‘Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord!” Ezekiel says in 37:7-8, “So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I was prophesying, there was a noise, a rattling sound, and the bones came together, bone to bone. I looked, and tendons and flesh appeared on them and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them.” God said, “Prophesy to the breath.” To which Ezekiel says, “So I prophesied as he commanded me, and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet—a vast army.”

What am I saying? Mane, if you don’t open your mouth and prophesy to the dry areas of your life. Understand something, Ezekiel prophesied to things that once had life and not to dirt and created life. So, don’t start speaking to an empty building and expecting it to burst forth as your business and then get mad at me. This isn’t what I mean. However, if you know God has purposed your marriage, ministry, business, book, conference and etc. and at this moment, it seems to be dying or dead; open your mouth and prophesy to those dry bones by faith and God’s word. Prophesy for the body to be restored and then prophesy for the breath (life). Stop doing that thing where you doubt yourself. Stop downplaying the power God has equipped you with. You have the power to prophesy but you’ve got to open your mouth. God has prepared you and all you have to do is open your mouth. Open your mouth and prophesy WITH FAITH AND GOD’S WORD and watch those things live and be profitable again. And when someone asks, how you did it. Tell them, So, I prophesied…
