Daily Devotional – June 4, 2020 “You are royalty!”

Do you know who you are? Do you know what you possess? Do you know the greatness you carry and the things you can birth? Do you know what you are? Look, our world is in unrest. No, I’m lying, black people are in a constant state of unrest due to the continued acts of racism. Understand me, this is a devotional blog but I’m still a black woman living in a world with people who don’t see me as equal. From the pulpit to corporate America, folk think I have to prove myself to them because of the color of my skin and my gender. I won’t.

Here’s what I will do though, I’m going to walk boldly with my head held high because I don’t owe anybody an explanation or an apology. It took me a while to get here but baby, I’m here now, showing who God has made me. Because it was He who created a smart, educated, anointed, gifted and cute semi-sweet chocolate, thick thang who has been cultivated in circumstances that gave me strength to push passed boundaries. I am who I am, and I don’t expect you to accept me, but you will respect me. It took me some time, but I know who I am now.

So, let me ask. Who are you? Stop looking at what people say, who are you. Stop waiting on the validation of anybody else, who are you? See, Bible tells us who we are, and it isn’t race or gender specific. It’s who we are, in God. In First Peter 2:9-10 (KJV), Bible tells me, “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light. Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.”

Bible says at first, we weren’t a people but now we’re people of God. At first, we had not obtained mercy, but now we do. At first, you may not have had an identity, but now you do. You are a peculiar people, not as in odd or strange, yet meaning a people for a special reservation. And I just need to encourage you, my brothers and my sisters, in Christ, to hold your head up, knowing who you are and what you possess because you are filled with greatness. Don’t ever allow anyone to take that from you. You are royalty, doggone it! You just need to know it, believe it and show it!

Wednesday Throwback

The Family that Lies was written by me and my twin sister, Laquisha. This book, released November 1, 2016 was my first time writing Christian Fiction.

What’s it about?

Born 18 months apart, Merci and Grayce Alexander were as close as sisters could get. With a father who thought the world of them, life was good. Until one day everything changed.

While Grayce got love and attention, Merci got all the hell, forcing her to leave home. She never looks back, putting the past behind her until … her sister shows up over a decade later begging for help, bringing all of the forgotten past with her. Merci wasn’t the least bit prepared for what was about to happen next.

Merci realizes, she’s been a part of something much bigger than she’d ever imagined. Yea, every family has their secrets, hidden truths and ties but Merci had no idea she’d been born into the family that lies.

Now, before y’all comment about it having sex and cussing, it does and it’s still Christian Fiction. See, truth is, even as Christians, we still cuss and have sex. Am I condoning this type of behavior, NO. Do I glory in this type of living, NO, but I’d be lying to me and you, if I write every book like the characters are perfect. They aren’t perfect because we aren’t. We live in flesh, which means sometimes we’re going to mess up. I write, realistically and I pray you’ll receive the message.

Here’s an excerpt from Merci who’s having a conversation with her sister Grayce:

“So, what you’re saying is I need to be more like you and hide it better? Oh okay, I’m catching on. What I should do is walk around with dresses down to my ankles because then people will think I’m saving myself for marriage. I should go to church every time the doors open because then people would believe me when I say I’m a saint of God. I should carry myself just like you. Is that about right?”

She doesn’t say anything, so I continue. “No answer? That’s okay, I’ll continue. See, baby sister, I will not walk around being a fake because it appeases everyone else. Yes, I have tattoos, but they don’t make me ghetto because I can go from the street to the boardroom the same way you can go from saint to sinner. I can carry a conversation with anybody from the dope dealer on the corner to the president of the company. I got it like that. However, don’t think for one second that I am fooled by you because while you’re trying to act all saved and sanctified, I know the real you.”

“What does that mean? This is the real me and I’m not hiding anything,” Grayce counters.

“Girl bye! You want to be real then let’s be real, shall we? You may carry a bible under your arm, but you have a freak card in your wallet. You may not dress like a hoe, but you have thot like tendencies. While you may have the skirt down to the floor, I can bet you don’t have underwear on underneath. In addition, this little sham of a relationship of yours, I know it’s for show because Shaun is as gay as they come. So, while you’re being real with me you may want to be real with your damn self.”

Still …

I haven’t shared a devotional in a while but I’ve still been praying. Praying for each of you, many whose name I don’t know. I’ve been praying for your faith, finances, family, friends, focus, spiritual fruit, spirit of forgiveness and your foundation.

I’ve been praying, during this pandemic especially with fear and anxiety on the rise, the draining media coverage, deaths and sickness because I understand that with everything going on that God’s promise stands.

What promise? The promise to be with you! For His word says, “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.” — Isaiah‬ ‭41:10‬ ‭NLT‬‬

I just need you to stay prayerful and hold on!

yearn to possess or have (something)

Karis (pronounced Car-ris) and Darius Toney have been married for seven years. Their marriage isn’t perfect but they’ve made it work. They’re active members of True Vine MB Church, she’s a photographer and he owns a tire shop. Things are, well, they are good.

Until the day, their life becomes the object of somebody’s obsession. The only downside, they don’t know who it is. This person, in the darkness has a yearning, a desire to possess something Karis and Darius has … they just didn’t know it.

Pray and fast, that’ll help, right? Well, they’re doing that and it feels like things are getting worst. Fire, turmoil, secrets and a kidnapping of a spouse. It’s clear, the person responsible hasn’t read Romans 13:9, “For the commandments say, “You must not commit adultery. You must not murder. You must not steal. You must not covet.”

Daily Devotional – 5/5/20 “Do it again!”

The enemy has confused you into believing you won’t succeed or nothing you set out to do will prosper. That funky enemy has you fighting yourself, sabotaging your relationship and thinking crazy thoughts. You got up today messy as hell because you laid down with the enemy attached to your back. Beloved, it’s the enemy’s job to get you to ruin relationships, fail at your job, flunk out of class, hold off on opening the business, not beat the addiction, hush and not pray and shut your bible. He also knows you don’t believe enough in yourself, so he’ll plant the small seed of doubt and sit back to watch you destroy everything God purposed for your life.

However, I have enough crazy faith to declare that whatever the enemy is trying to do in the lives of folk around me today won’t prosper! I have enough praying power within me to shift whatever attack the enemy thought was about to prevail! I got enough faith on the inside of me that whatever the enemy was getting ready to release won’t even ignite into a flame. For whoever you are who’s suffering in your pit, I urge you to cry out to God. I don’t care if you’ve cried the last seven days straight, make today number eight and continue until He answers. Whoever you are, being tormented with the demons of your thoughts, I need you to turn it over to God, He’s waiting on you to release it. Whoever you are, who’s drowning in your sorrows, stand up and surrender to God.

Today, I’m praying for you even when you don’t know it because the enemy can’t have you and I will make sure he knows it. Whoever you are, who needs to be reminded that someone is praying for you, here I am. If you need to be reminded that someone believes in you, here I am. If you need to be reminded that someone cares, here I am. I’m praying with and for you that your faith, especially now, does not fail.

Yes, I know you’ve probably tried, and it didn’t work but do it again until it does. If you happen to fall, get up and do it again. If it breaks you, heal then do it again. If it makes you cry, cry then do it again. If you must scream, scream but do it again. If you have to throw everything away, scrap it then do it again. I believe in you and you got this!
