Daily Devotional – 12/24/15 “It’s okay to quit!”

It’s okay to quit! Yep, you read what I typed … it’s okay to quit! Now, please understand; I’m only talking about the things that mean you no good. Things like the alcohol, the drugs, the jealousy, the anger, the bitterness, the backbiting; QUIT! Baby, you know it’s time to write a ‘Dear Boo, it ain’t working no mo,’ letter to some folk and some things. You’ve been holding on to stuff for far too long and it’s time you let it go. You can’t concern yourself with the person who hurt you, forgive them and let yourself go. Aren’t you tired? If you’re in a relationship that isn’t working, it may be time to put in your two-week notice (This is my two-week notice that either things change or we let each other go). If the folk you’re hanging around can’t get on board with who you are now, it’s time to pass out resignation letters (I regret to inform you that we are on different levels). If you’re in a place of worship that isn’t about God’s business, it may be time for you to put in a statement of notification (I, with all respect, am informing you of my decision to find somewhere else to worship).

Beloved, it’s okay to quit and then be okay with doing it. Quit talking so much, quit lying all the time, quit posting all your business on social media, quit spending all your money when you’re already in debt, quit giving your joy to folk, quit acting like folk owe you something, quit blaming folk for the position you’re in, quit drinking and smoking, quit losing all your money gambling, quit cheating, quit throwing a pity party, quit with the woe is me, quit acting like you all that, quit putting your mouth on folk, quit harboring feelings of hurt, quit allowing your past to hold you and quit taking God for granted. Oh, I’m sure there is some more stuff you can add to the list. Look, I don’t know if you’ve noticed or not but time isn’t standing still for you to get yourself together. You aren’t promised to see tomorrow. Quit acting like you got time. Quit making this season about you. Yea, it’s okay to quit but quit the right things that are wrong in your life. It’s time to do better. Quit making resolutions and make changes. Don’t wait until the New Year; start now while you have time.

“So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.” Colossians 3:5
