Daily Devotional – 4/14/14 “Passover”

Passover begins tonight at dusk and for those of you who don’t fully understand it, please take a minute and research it biblically. See, Passover, is a celebration of God’s people being freed from Egypt and according to the bible in Numbers 9:2-3, the Lord spoke to Moses saying, “Let the people of Israel keep the Passover at its appointed time. On the fourteenth day of this month, at twilight, you shall keep it at its appointed time; according to all its statutes and all its rules you shall keep it.” Now, I am not going to write on the principles of Passover however it’s befitting that I tell you on today that whatever God has freed you from, celebrate it! Yea, I understand that it may be hard but whatever you’ve lost (which means you’re freed from) celebrate it through your grieving. When a person dies, don’t we have a home going celebration to celebrate the fact that they’ve been freed to an eternal glory? Then why don’t you celebrate whatever situation that has died in your life thus freeing you? Why are you holding on to the thoughts of what could have been? Ok, I get it; your marriage could have been great but he/she has been gone now for 8 months, move on. Ok, so that job was one you thought could have been meant for you but you got fired or you got sick and couldn’t work so now that’s passed over, get over it. Stop whining and crying like the people of Israel did in the wilderness after God released them and recognize the blessing that you’ve been given. Whatever it is that you’ve lost has now passed over, grieve it and then let it go. Yes, it’s easier said than done but how can you get anything new when you’re still holding on to the old? How can you grab something new when you’re hands are still holding on to the memories of the past? How can you see where you’re going if you’re still looking back? How can you see your way out if you’re still looking at the way in? You’ve been freed from the addiction, the abusive spouse, that chemo or dialysis, all the medication, lying friends, a dying church or whatever had you in bondage; so why aren’t you celebrating? Why aren’t you celebrating that storm that passed you over that could have claimed your life? Why aren’t you celebrating that tornado of hell that passed through your house but left your foundation standing? Why aren’t you celebrating the should haves, the could haves, the negatives the prospered into positives, the no’s that turned to yes, the lefts that God made rights and the passing over of what was meant to push you over? Why aren’t you celebrating?

Daily Devotional – 4/11/14 “Enjoy this Friday!”

It’s Friday so stop fumbling with foolishness and have some fun. Yea, I know you may have some stress about everything but forget about it (for a few hours) and have some fun. You don’t have to be uptight because you’re a Christian, you can have some fun too just don’t get foolish! Yes, you can have a glass of wine but don’t get drunk. You can go dancing at a club but don’t get too turned up that you can’t turn back down. Surround yourself with likeminded folk who won’t judge you for wanting to have fun when they too understand that you don’t have to be a stuck up Christian because you only have to be a Christian. Ecclesiastes 3 says there is a time and place for all things, even to laugh and dance. See, I’ve found that a little stress is necessary because it makes you appreciate the hard work you have to do to get the things that are yours but not enough to send you pass stroke level. Yes, you have bills that are due and your money is few, things that you won’t but your credit can’t get it and you’ve worked 7 days and it seems like you’re paying them when you get paid but don’t give up, hold on! Appreciate this Friday! For the bible says in Proverbs 17:22, “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength.” Laugh a lot, dance some and then start over again Saturday. Relax and enjoy your children, your spouse, your family and your friends. Stop by someone’s house you haven’t been over in a while and you might just find yourself enjoying the time without spending a dime. Enjoy this Friday!

Daily Devotional – 4/10/14 “Something is about to happen!”

I’m sitting here with my hands on the keyboard saying, in my mind, Lord have your way. I’m sitting here as the Holy Spirit roams through my spirit praying, Lord have your way. I’m sitting here contemplating what I should tell you, all the while a shift is happening in my spirit and I’m whispering, Lord have your way. I can’t explain it because if you’ve never felt it then you wouldn’t understand. If you’ve never experienced the interceding of the Holy Spirit then my words will be gibberish to you. Oh but something is happening through me for you. I don’t know what you’re waiting on, praying for, crying out about or even what you need but something is happening. I don’t know what you’re dealing with in your home, on your job, in your church or even with your friends but something is happening and I can’t even explain it. All I know, it’s Thursday and someone is telling lies on you somewhere but trust God. It’s Thursday and your rent was due last Tuesday but trust God. It’s Thursday and you’re still dealing with trouble from last Thursday but trust God. It’s Thursday and temptations are tapping on you but trust God. It’s Thursday and you might not be dealing with anything negative but still trust God. It’s Thursday and you might be happy despite circumstances, still trust God. See, something is about to happen for you and although I don’t know what it is, trust God. It may be good or it may even be bad but trust God through it. I don’t have all the answers, I don’t know where to find every scripture, I don’t know every name in the bible and I don’t even have all the books memorized in order but one thing for sure, I trust God. So, whatever it is, whether good or bad; trust God because something is about to happen. I don’t know when, where, what, who or even how but whatever it is; trust God. Will you do that for me?

Daily Devotional – 4/9/14 “The shedding process!”

If you’re like me, you probably don’t like snakes. No, I’m not talking about the ones who walk on 2 legs and look like you and I (even though I can’t stand them either) but I’m talking about real snakes. Have you ever wondered what makes a snake shed his skin? I know you’re wondering how this ties into a devotional, but go with me. See, I found that a snake has to go through a process to shed their skin because the skin they’re in no longer fit and to remove parasites that have attached themselves to their old skin. Now, the first step is their skin becomes dull. In our Christian life this is when the light of God is no longer evident in our walk. The next step, the snake’s eyes become impaired and sources say they become excessively stressed. In our Christian life, it’s the same because at this point we’re no longer looking through our spiritual eyes and all we see is burdens being dropped on our shoulders instead of the strength God has given us to carry them. In the next step, the snake’s eyes clear up although their skin still has a dull look. In our Christian life we are starting to see the break in the clouds yet God’s light is still too dull to even give off a glow. This is because although we can see God, our faith hasn’t caught up. Oh but then the final step is shedding the old skin that has now become loose enough to pull off. In this process, it is said that the snake will rub their nose against something to start the process of the shedding and I say, in our Christian walk, its falling flat on our face. Yea, it’s being knocked down to a point where you didn’t think you’d come back from. It’s having your back pushed up against a wall and you don’t see your way out. It’s being without and you see no way of being with. It’s constantly robbing Peter to pay Paul and you still owe Saul. Oh but here comes God and when you’ve accepted Him into your life, you become a new creature because He takes all of the old stuff we used to do and all the old things we used to be called and throws them into the sea of forgetfulness – thus shedding our old skin because it no longer fits anyway.

The dirt that has been thrown on you by folks when they tried to bury your dreams, all the scars you’ve gotten from being drug through hurt and pain by family and friends, the hate folks spoke over your life when they said you’d never amount to anything and the tear stains from crying yourself to sleep at night; was all removed when you shed the old skin. (I don’t know about you but I feel something stirring in my spirit) See, when you shed the old you’re taking off all the things folks thought about you, all the old stuff you used to think about yourself and you’re stepping into the new skin that has no scars, no bruises and it shines like gold. The new skin fits you perfectly because it was made just for you. Yea, you used to be a drug dealer, so what, now deal in the works of the Lord. Yea, you used to be an alcoholic and drug addict, so what, now become addicted to being a better Christian. You used to lie on folks and with anybody who smiled at you, so what, now lie in God’s word because He promised to give you all you need. You used to steal from folks, stores and whatever you could get your hands on, so what, now steal away to study God’s word. You don’t have to be the same you were on yesterday. Shed that old skin because it’s dry and cracked and no matter how much you try it won’t shine like it should because it’s covered in mess. Oh, you may not believe my words but trust God’s because 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” And once you’re in your new skin your walk won’t be the same because you’re now walking in your destiny. In your new skin, your talk won’t be the same because your tongue has been tamed. In your new skin, you won’t even look the same because you shine will now glow. Go on through your shedding process because you’ll look and feel better in your new skin!
