EXCERPT:

Gwen

I was up, earlier than usual, getting ready to stop by Dr. Lea’s office because I’m having some spotting but no pain. I didn’t want to call her because she told me, yesterday that if my pressure isn’t normal, I’m going straight to the hospital but I had too. I’m praying everything is good because Gloria is coming home tomorrow and I promised her a home cooked meal.

Once I’m done showering, dressing and all the other stuff that’s now taking me longer to accomplish, I’m headed out. I set the alarm and go out to get in the car. When I press the button for the garage to lift, I am shocked to see Jacque’s truck.

I get out of my car and walk over to the driver’s window. I tap but he doesn’t move so I knock harder and he jumps up.

“Jacque, what are you doing?”

He opens the door.

“Gwen, I’m so sorry.” He says pulling me into him but I push him off.

“How long have you been out here?”

“For about an hour. I drove, all night, from Houston and I didn’t want to wake you.”

“Look, if this is about you staying in the guest room, I am not about to argue with you because I don’t need the drama. I’m trying to keep my blood pressure down so I don’t spend the rest of this pregnancy in the hospital.” I turn to walk off after telling all my business.

“Gwen wait, please.” He says grabbing my arm. “I’ve really made a mess of my life and I need help.”

“Good for you.”

“No, what I mean is, I need your help.”

She moves my hand from her arm. “Jacque—”

“I was going to kill myself last night,” he says with tears forming in his eyes. “I had the gun to my head and I almost pulled the trigger but I couldn’t. Gwen, I’m broken.”

He falls to his knees in front of me and God allows me to remember, waking up last night and praying.

“This last month has been the worse of my life and I didn’t think I was going to survive. Last night was the lowest I’ve ever been and without help, I might not make it.”

“Jacque, get up.” I help him stand. “The only way you can get the help you need; you have to get the help you need. I know that sounds crazy but I don’t know any other way to say it. You can’t do this for me, we aren’t together and neither can you do it for this baby. You must want it for Jacque.” I look at my watch. “I have a doctor’s appointment and if I don’t leave now, I’m going to be late. Why don’t you take a shower and try to rest until I get back? I think you have some clothes still here.”

“Can I come with you?”

“Don’t do that.”

“Do what?” He asks.

“Show up now that you’ve hit rock bottom. Jacque, I’m glad you’ve decided to get the help you need and I’ll be here for you, but things are still the same with us. Right now, you’re running off adrenaline. Sober up and if you feel the same about wanting to be a part of this baby’s life then we can set boundaries.”
I leave him standing there and continue to my appointment.

Daily Devotional – 4/23/19 “Dear God,”

Dear God,

There’s a cry, within our city, that isn’t being heard and that is why I’m asking you to open our ears to hear. Father, we are losing too many of our children and adults to mental illness and suicide. Too many of our children are dying because of bullying and too much blood is being shed. God, pull back the curtains because this is no longer a thing we can continue to cover and hide. Families need help. Husbands and wives need help. Sons and daughters need help. Preachers and pastors need help. Doctors and lawyers need help. Principals and teachers need help. From the CEO to the janitor, from the servant to the one being served and from the lowest to the highest; we need help. For those contemplating suicide; don’t let the gun go off, don’t let the pills and alcohol work and don’t let the cut be deep enough. Stay the hand of the enemy that is fighting against the preacher/pastor who is doing all they can.

Let the person who need help, say it and then seek it. Let their cry be heard today by somebody who can help. Give us the power to not only write, I’m praying for you but also pray. My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from us, yet not as we will, but as You will. Hear the cry and heal the land. God, give those who seek you, an ear to hear the cry, eyes to see the signs, the mind to comprehend and the anointing to help. We need it God. We need you God. Send forth intercessors who will cry loud and spare not. Remove the veil from those who use your name in vain and bring forth those who has your ear and can turn things around. Convert the worship places back to hospitals and the altars to operating rooms. Send forth shepherds who have a heart to serve your sheep. Give us a mind to create war rooms, use them and then let us fight, by your might. For we’ve got to survive this! Dear God, have thine way.

Let the redeemed of the Lord say,
Amen.

Daily Devotional – 4/11/19 “This is your pardon!”

I’m working on a new book and when I tell you, it has pulled from places within me… whew! On last night, while trying to finish it (I’ve changed the ending 5 times), God gave me this word. When you’ve been in prison for a while, after being found guilty, the governor has the ability to grant you a pardon. Now, the pardon doesn’t remove the offense from your record but you can no longer be held to the restrictions of your previous charge. In other words, a pardon forgives you for the crime you committed, either because you were wrongly convicted or the punishment you’ve received was too harsh for the crime. As people of God, we will make mistakes, we will go through some things and we will have things happen to us that we can’t control. When things happen, as they will; we tend to carry the weight with us, from place to place and relationship to relationship. A person who has been abused, carries that abuse. A person who has been broken, will carry the brokenness. A person who has been hurt will carry the hurt. Sad reality, it’ll show up every time you think you’re doing okay.

Why? Because you’ve sentenced yourself to a lifetime of recycling instead of destroying. Beloved, it’s time you go free. You’ve spent too much time making yourself pay for a mistake you made. You’ve spent too much time in darkness, ashamed of what you’ve done. You’ve allowed people the power to continually make you pay for something they claimed to have forgiven you for. Today, this is your pardon. You shall no longer be ashamed, hold your head up. You shall no longer sit in the dark, replaying what happened to you, come out and be free. Romans 8:1-3 says, “So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death. The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature. So God did what the law could not do. He sent his own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins.”

Baby, consider this your pardon. You are free and the chains are no longer holding you. Take up your mat and walk. Go, your faith has made you whole. This is your pardon. Oh, if you find yourself still stuck, it’s because the only person that can hold you back, once God releases you, is you.

Daily Devotional – 4/9/19 “Prepare for the storm!”

It’s been a couple of weeks since I’ve shared a devotional and this is because, I don’t share just anything. I wait for God to release a word and this morning, while I have so many things going through my head, God told me to stop and tell somebody … prepare for the storm. Yes, I know you don’t see the clouds but there’s a storm brewing. The sun is shining but the clouds are still forming. The weather is nice but a storm is on the way. What kind of storm? The storm of circumstance that’s going to attempt to cease your prayers. The storm of tragedy that will try to break your trust in man and God. The storm of weeping and suffering that’s trying to make you believe God has forsaken you. Beloved, prepare for the storm because here’s the reality, everybody with you in the sun, won’t be there in the storm. In fact, there’s someone already in your camp who’s waiting on the right time to betray you (hello Judas). Truth is, the one who is going to deny you, you invited them to your table (hello Peter). The one who will break a promise may be the one who vowed to love, honor and cherish you, forsaking all others until death do you part. What I’m saying is, if you aren’t prepared, the storm may just push you over the edge because it’s going to hurt like you wouldn’t believe and those you thought would be there won’t but you’ll survive, if you prepare for the storm.

Experts gives you a list of things to do in preparation for a hurricane or tropical storm. Experts say, know your evacuation route but God says, know you have a way out and be prepared to take it, even if it don’t make sense. Experts say, create a safety kit of water, nonperishable food, first aid kit and etc.. God says, trust Him enough to know, if He’s provided the way out then He’ll provide while you’re moving. Experts say, set up a safety room but God says, set up your prayer room and use it. Experts say, know where you are but God says know whose you are. Beloved, prepare for your storm. I don’t know when it’ll come but be prepared. I don’t know how harsh it’s going to be but be prepared. I will not lie, this storm is going to shake you to your core but I come today already decreeing that you shall not die! I don’t care what the enemy says, lay on your face in prayer and don’t forsake worship. Even when the storm starts to shake your dwelling, stand steadfast and know that you will come out and rebuild! I don’t care that it looks like the odds are against you, you will be victorious! It’s about to get crazy but it won’t last. The sound in your ears is about to be loud but keep praying. The shaking in your spirit is about to be something you’ve never experienced, brace for the impact! For the bible tells me in Revelation 2:10, “Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to cast some of you into prison, so that you will be tested, and you will have tribulation for ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.”
