It’s not them, boo!

Some of you swear you want a mentor until they start mentoring the hell out of you.

Truth is, some of you need a mentor, but your flesh won’t allow it!

’Cause see, them times they tell you to hush, your flesh says they’re being mean. When they tell you to take down the post, flesh will swear they’re hating. When they say you’re not ready to move, flesh will make you believe they’re jealous. When they tell you to wait, flesh will tell you that you don’t need to.

It’s not them, playa. IT’S YOU!

And the quicker you realize that correction is not rejection, the quicker you’ll understand the value of having somebody in your life who can see what you can’t.

See, a real mentor isn’t always going to tickle your fancy and tell you what you want to hear. A real one will ruffle your feathers and tell you what you need to hear. You know like, fall back on that relationship because it’s changing you and not for the good.

They’re going to check you when you’re out of order. They’re going to slow you down when your emotions are moving faster than your wisdom. They’re going to tell you when your attitude is the problem. They’re going to make you question your motives.

And you ain’t gonna like it. Well baby, you’re going to have to learn how to sit down, shut up, and listen to the correction without turning the corrector into the enemy.

If you want the help.

Because everybody who challenges you isn’t jealous of you, everybody who tells you no isn’t trying to stop you and everybody who disagrees with you isn’t against you.

Sometimes God will put somebody in your life who loves you enough to interrupt your flesh before it ruins your future.

So if you’ve prayed for a mentor, stop looking for a cheerleader because a mentor who never corrects you isn’t mentoring you, they’re managing your emotions.
