Daily Devotional – 2/5/18 “Live!”

What if you were told today, you have six months to live; what would you do with the time you have left? I know this may be hard to think about and even for some, a devastating reality, but I need you to go there. See, I ask the question as a way to prick something within you because too many of us are taking the precious moments of life for granted. We put off stuff thinking we have time. We don’t take time to make memories because we think we have time. We don’t appreciate, like we should, because we think we have time. We don’t serve like we could because we think we have time. We don’t appreciate and celebrate the small things because we think we have time. What if you didn’t? What if today or tomorrow or Friday or six months from now was your last day? Would you be happy with the way you’ve lived? Would you be pleased with the way you’ve left things? Would you be satisfied with the way you’ve served? Would you be content with the memories?

Or would you need the last six months to get your affairs in order? Would you have worked so much that you’d need the last six months to make memories with your family? Would you need the time to take pictures because you never stopped to do them before? Would you need time to make amends? Would you need time to forgive? Well beloved, this is your wake up call. No, I am not about to say you have six months to live but I simply stopped by to tell you are ALIVE! Right now, at this very moment, you are alive. You don’t have to believe me. Blink, inhale, exhale, move a limb or speak. Yep, you’re alive so what are you going to do? Will you keep holding grudges or offer grace? Will you continue to harbor anger or will you release it and breath? Will you keep taking life for granted or will you appreciate the life you’ve been granted? Think about it but not for long because you’re alive and you have another chance to do whatever it is you want to do. All you have to do is try. Even if it doesn’t work, you don’t get approved or you don’t get the call back; it’s better to say you tried than saying, I wanted to try it and never did. You’re alive so take a chance. “For the Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life.—Job 33:4”
