Daily Devotional – 12/1/15 “Get out of your own way!”

The Thanksgiving holiday has come and gone … are you still thankful? I mean it’s a new month, are you still singing the same song from last month? Do you still have the ‘Why me’ lyrics on repeat? 12166610_10208139613986850_981395253_n Are you still dancing to ‘I wish’ theme song? Are you still hanging around with the same ‘if I were you’ crowd? Still going to the ‘I ain’t going there anymore’ places? Still saying, ‘God knows my heart’ to negate the fact that your heart isn’t right? Still telling folk, ‘I got up on the wrong side of the bed’ to account for your jacked up attitude? Are you still blaming ‘the man’ for you not getting out? Are you still mad at the Pastor for trying to bring worship into this century? Still blaming momma or daddy for not bailing you out for the thousandth time? Still casting blame on society for your misfortune? It’s still your baby momma’s fault that you’re a dead beat dad, ain’t it? Still baby daddy fault for you getting pregnant, again huh?

Ma’am, sir; grow up! Puh-lease! Look here, I know folk are always preaching on what you need to do to get to Heaven but baby, you need to realize that what you’re doing NOW isn’t working, for you, down here. You need to understand that the mistakes you continually make need to stop. You need to get that throwing the pity party is old and worn out. You need to realize that wallowing in self-made sorrow doesn’t look good on you. You need to get up AND then get out of your mess. You got laid off six months ago and you’re still looking for work; keep looking. Spouse left you, three years ago, get over it and move on; they have. Your car was repossessed; house foreclosed on; ok, what now? What are you going to do about it? The bible says in Proverbs 16:8-9, “Better to have little, with godliness, than to be rich and dishonest. We can make our plans, but the LORD determines our steps.” Stop worrying about folk; they’ll sometimes find wrong in your right. Do what pleases God and He’ll do what pleases you. Get out of your own way!

Proverbs 16:7, “When people’s lives please the LORD, even their enemies are at peace with them.”
