Daily Devotional – 10/7/13 “Your heart determines your harvest!”

Oh, I bet you didn’t even realize this, did you? Yea, I know that it’s said that what you sow you shall reap but don’t you know that if you sow something good with a bad, deceitful heart that you sow in vain? See, Jesus told Samuel in 1 Samuel 16:7, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” Yea, you see someone handing you food but God sees someone who is wishing you’d choke. You see someone offering you a hug but God sees someone who is about to stab you in the back. You see someone offering you encouragement but God sees someone who is quietly wishing for your demise. You see someone offering to pray for you but God sees someone who is praying for you to fail. This is why you have to know a person’s heart. I know you’re asking how you can know someone’s heart when you can’t see it. Well, it’s easy; know them because a person shows you who they truly are but you have to be willing to see it and then receive it.

You don’t honestly expect God to bless you for your giving when you only give for a show, do you? You can’t expect God to send someone to love you when your heart is hard like stone, can you? You aren’t really looking for an open door when you’ve shut so many in other folk’s face, are you? I mean, you have the audacity to get mad at God when you know you aren’t right. Your heart is so full of hell, it’s barely pumping and now you won’t even go to worship because God hasn’t sent the answer you want. Child, please! If you’re wondering why your harvest didn’t pay off like you thought it should, check your heart. If you’re wondering why you aren’t getting the blessings you think you deserve, check your heart. If you keep fasting and praying yet your answer is still the same, check your heart. If folk keep leaving you, check your heart because the answer is there for Jeremiah 17:10 says, “But I, the LORD, search all hearts and examine secret motives. I give all people their due rewards, according to what their actions deserve.” If you didn’t know before, you know now because Proverbs 21:2 says, “A person may think their own ways are right, but the LORD weighs the heart.”

Proverbs 17:20 says, “One whose heart is corrupt does not prosper; one whose tongue is perverse falls into trouble,” but Proverbs 17:22 says, “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength.”
