What if the change is necessary?

On Sunday, I had the privilege to share with Greater Grace MB Church (Memphis) on their Annual Women’s Month.

The title of the sermon, A Necessary Change.

In Genesis 17, God changed Sarai’s name to Sarah because Sarai’s life was being changed. The old name didn’t fit her new place. Yes, it was only 1 letter, but it had significant meaning.

What if the change happening, in you or to you, is not for where you are, but for where you’re going? What if this necessary change isn’t for your now but your next? What if this change is necessary because the promise God made you (no matter how long it’s been) is about to be fulfilled?

How would you handle it?

This Matters to God

A few weeks ago, as I prepared to teach a leadership class, God gave me the vision and words to create a 50-page guide … This Matters to God: Leading Like God Intended.

What is this and why does it matter to God?

This = the position YOU chose to accept.
This = the responsibilities YOU chose to take on.
This = the vow you made

And it matters to God because God chose you, you are taking care of His bride, and you are leading His people. In this guide, we define:

What is Christian Leadership
What Christian Leadership isn’t
Why it matters to God
Along with breaking Christian Leadership into seven (7) categories.

Calling
Character
Capability
Confidence
Commitment
Communication
Conflict Resolution

I prayed, “God, forgive me…”

Lately, I’ve felt tired. Not in the fatigue kind of way, but in the “is this worth it anymore,” kind of way. Then it hit me, early this morning. I’m tired because I’ve stopped enjoying the blessings of my gifts.

Here’s why. I began looking at the tangible instead of trusting the plans and purpose God has for me.

Let me be truthful and I’m only speaking for myself, but it can become discouraging, most of the time, to pour your all into anything and not see an ROI (return on the investment). This is for anything. Writing, ministry, living, giving, or whatever. However, this is especially true for writing. You may not realize this, but African American Christian Fiction isn’t a genre that is paid its worth and I started questioning whether it was worth it anymore.

IT VERY MUCH IS!

So, this morning I decided that I’m going to get back to enjoying the journey. I mean, wholeheartedly enjoy it. And while in prayer, this morning, I asked God for forgiveness. “Forgive me, God for forfeiting the joy of the journey.”

Because I love all that God allows me to do. Therefore, I’m going to continue to do what He has called me to do with joy while allowing Him to handle everything else.

I don’t know who else is feeling this way about whatever it is but don’t give up. Instead, trust your gifts and enjoy the journey. Do your part because the rest is God’s business.

Head up, soldier!

On Chicago PD, an officer was shot in the line of duty. Her coworkers still had to work the case because there was a cop killer on the run. Voight told his officer, focus and then feel.

This thang blessed me. Why? Because there’s going to be times we’ll have to fight through things when we’re in the worst place, in pain, grieving, suffering, and going through. Yet, we’ll have to focus first and feel later.

It doesn’t mean God is giving His toughest battle to his strongest soldier. We are all
His strongest soldiers and sometimes we must tussle with life. It doesn’t mean God doesn’t care about our feelings. He’s a compassionate God. Of course, He cares.

What this means is, there’s still something YOU must do and God needs your head in the game because it’s a matter of life and death.

Head up soldier. You’re going to get through this, but right now you need to focus.

Giving Fast

Temple Church is in our last week of fasting. From September 23 to September 30, 2024, we are fasting to break the fear of giving and the bondage of debt.

It is our prayer that through our giving, we break the curse of debt over our lives and our lineage. Therefore, we are asking you to join with us by selecting an amount you’ll set aside per day to give or a flat amount. You can choose to take the money from your daily cup of coffee, pack of cigarettes, fast food meal, pair of shoes, a drink, etc or vow a certain amount. It’s YOUR choice.

Whatever amount, we are asking you to give it as an offering to our church, Temple Church.

The amount you decide can be given on the first Sunday in October, or you can send it whenever you choose.

Here are the ways to give:

Scriptures: Second Corinthians 9:6-8, Luke 6:38, Hebrews 13:16, Proverbs 3:9
